Implementation of the Australian Curriculum (Version 8)
At Tieri State School, the Australian Curriculum (V8) is implemented in each of the eight learning areas. This implementation acknowledges the three dimensional characteristic of the Australian Curriculum and the significance of the interconnectedness of each dimension. The C2C suite of resources are used to support the implementation of the Australian Curriculum. These units of work form the base units of implementation and are contextualised for our individual school needs.
A Learning Area approach is taken for the implementation of English, Maths, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, The Arts and Technologies. A subject specific approach has been adopted for Languages: Japanese.
We implement the Australian Curriculum V8 in response to the state government priorities of:
- Continuous improvement in teaching, learning and assessment of the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines, the Australian Curriculum and the senior syllabuses.
- Success and wellbeing for all children and students through each stage of learning in an inclusive education system.
We also apply the implement the following elements:
- Languages (Japanese) is implemented via Capricornia School of Distance Education from Prep – Year 6
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures are embedded using the Australian Curriculum cross-curriculum priority where appropriate, within the learning areas. Opportunities for this are identified in year level plans.
- Standard Australian English is used as the basis for teaching, including the teaching of spelling
- Queensland Modern Cursive Script taught from Prep to Year Six.
